On June 10th, it was announced that according to the results of the referendum, 45% of the people wanted a monarchy, while 54% wanted a republic. This meant that the majority of Italians favored the formation of a republican government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result of the referendum led the Italian state to adopt a new constitution on January 1, 1948, making Italy a unified parliamentary republic. Since then, every year on June 2, Italy celebrates the Festa della Repubblica with official ceremonies, speeches, concerts and parades throughout the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
