Do I neeed to have an actual office building to register business in Indonesia?

L
K

Some KBLI codes require a physical business location, but most KBLI codes can be registered with a Virtual Office.

What is a virtual office?

L
K
A virtual office in Indonesia gives you a formal business address for registering your business and sending mail, but you don't have to stay there.
It can also include services like answering the phone and taking care of mail, giving companies more options and lower costs.

Where can I find a strategically located virtual office?

L
K
We suggest establishing virtual offices in Central Jakarta and South Jakarta, as Jakarta is the business center of Indonesia. This location complies with local regulations and offers exceptional accessibility.

Who is eligible to use a virtual office?

L
K
A virtual office in Jakarta is a popular choice for entrepreneurs and new businesses that need a real address to register their business. Anyone can rent one.
Anyone who wants to set up a business in Jakarta at a fair cost and without having to buy traditional office space should look into this option.

What services are typically included with a virtual office?

L
K
The main service is giving people business addresses so they can register their businesses.
A lot of organizations give services like receiving mail service, reception service, meeting rooms usage, and also with upgraded VO service, you can have a dedicated call service.

What types of businesses typically use virtual offices?

L
K
Virtual offices work well for businesses that don't need to be physically present every day or meet a lot of clients.
They're good for businesses that want to have a legal presence in Jakarta but don't want to spend a lot of cost on it, as well as for business nomads, digital entrepreneurs, consulting firms, and online companies.
But companies that have been around for a while may get more out of renting or owning real office space.

What are the benefits of using a virtual office?

L
K
The best thing about a virtual office is that it's cost-effective. It gives you a legal business address for company registration for a lot less money than renting or buying office space.
There are also perks like flexibility (no long-term leases), a professional look with a prestigious address, and services that can be scaled up or down as your business grows.

Can foreigners open bank accounts in Indonesia?

L
K

Yes, people from other countries can open bank accounts in Indonesia.
It's easier to do with a KITAS or KITAP (must have KITAS)
You might need help from service providers, though. A local bank account makes it easier to handle your money and helps you avoid fees for doing business abroad.

L
K

Indonesia has both local and international banks available to foreigners.
Foreigners may find it challenging to use ATMs or visit the offices of local banks such as BCA, BRI, Mandiri, Maybank, OCBC, and Bank Niaga due to language barriers.
If this is the case, we can assist you as an interpreter or translator.

What is an Investor KITAS and how does it differ from other KITAS types?

L
K

A Investor KITAS is a residence permit for foreign investors in Indonesia creating or funding companies (PT PMA).
Compared to other permits, it provides easier residency, cost savings, and flexibility.

What is the difference between an Investor KITAS and a Working KITAS?

L
K

The major difference between an Investor KITAS and a Working KITAS is what they are used for and who can get them.
Foreign investors who run or manage businesses (PT PMA) can get an Investor KITAS. People in director roles do not need a separate work permit for this position.
A Working KITAS is for people hired by Indonesian companies, and they need an extra work pass (IMTA). The Working KITAS is better for people who already have a job or small savings, while the Investor KITAS gives you more freedom.

How do I obtain a Work Permit (IMTA) with my KITAS?

L
K

You need an IMTA (Work Permit) if you have a KITAS and want to properly work in Indonesia (not as an investor-director).
This is set up by your employer through the Ministry of Manpower. The requirements vary by job and business.

How long is a Working KITAS valid, and can it be renewed?

L
K

You can stay in the country for up to six years with a
Working KITAS that is good for one year and can be updated
up to five times a year. After the fifth renewal, you must
either cancel your KITAS and reapply for a new one, which
could mean leaving Indonesia for a while, or if you are qualified,
you must upgrade to a permanent stay permit (KITAP).

Can an Investor or Working KITAS be converted to permanent residency?

L
K

You can stay in the country for up to six years with a Working KITAS that is good for one year and can be updated
up to five times a year. After the fifth renewal, you must either cancel your KITAS and reapply for a new one,
which could mean leaving Indonesia for a while, or if you are qualified, you must upgrade to a permanent stay permit (KITAP).

What happens if I change companies while holding a Working KITAS?

L
K

If you change jobs while having a Working KITAS, it won't directly go to the new employer because it is linked to your current job.
Your old KITAS needs to be canceled, and you'll need to apply for a new one with your new workplace as the sponsor.
This process needs new paperwork and, based on the rules for immigration, may require you to leave Indonesia for a short time.

I have a working KITAS. Can I still establish a company?

L
K

Yes, you can set up a company even with a working KITAS. However, if you opt for an investor visa, you must deactivate your working KITAS as per Indonesian regulations.

How do I know if I need this service?

L
K
If you are looking to start a business in Indonesia or expert products from Indonesia to your country (or any other country); but don’t know how to begin, our Business Research service is the perfect solution. We will assist you with product and market research for your business idea and present our findings to you by the agreed deadline.
