L
K

The major difference between an Investor KITAS and a Working KITAS is what they are used for and who can get them.
Foreign investors who run or manage businesses (PT PMA) can get an Investor KITAS. People in director roles do not need a separate work permit for this position.
A Working KITAS is for people hired by Indonesian companies, and they need an extra work pass (IMTA). The Working KITAS is better for people who already have a job or small savings, while the Investor KITAS gives you more freedom.

How do I obtain a Work Permit (IMTA) with my KITAS?

L

You need an IMTA (Work Permit) if you have a KITAS and want to properly work in Indonesia (not as an investor-director).
This is set up by your employer through the Ministry of Manpower. The requirements vary by job and business.

How long is a Working KITAS valid, and can it be renewed?

L
K

You can stay in the country for up to six years with a
Working KITAS that is good for one year and can be updated
up to five times a year. After the fifth renewal, you must
either cancel your KITAS and reapply for a new one, which
could mean leaving Indonesia for a while, or if you are qualified,
you must upgrade to a permanent stay permit (KITAP).

L
K

You can stay in the country for up to six years with a Working KITAS that is good for one year and can be updated
up to five times a year. After the fifth renewal, you must either cancel your KITAS and reapply for a new one,
which could mean leaving Indonesia for a while, or if you are qualified, you must upgrade to a permanent stay permit (KITAP).

What happens if I change companies while holding a Working KITAS?

L
K

If you change jobs while having a Working KITAS, it won't directly go to the new employer because it is linked to your current job.
Your old KITAS needs to be canceled, and you'll need to apply for a new one with your new workplace as the sponsor.
This process needs new paperwork and, based on the rules for immigration, may require you to leave Indonesia for a short time.

I have a working KITAS. Can I still establish a company?

L
K

Yes, you can set up a company even with a working KITAS. However, if you opt for an investor visa, you must deactivate your working KITAS as per Indonesian regulations.
